What's a fun fact about you?
I am an award winning Interior Designer, self-published author, turned stay at home/homeschooling mom since 2018. I have had MoonPieces going since 2012 starting with jewelry making and painting and let it organically evolve through the years. I grew up in the family upholstery business with a father who was artistic and my parents encouraged my love of arts. It seems serendipitous that I would end up working with textiles and fabrics at this stage of life. I also have a background in graphic design and design all of my own logos/artwork/labels.
Describe your art.
I am a sewist/textile artist/designer. I love to design unique yet functional pieces - bags, totes, pouches, Japanese style crossback aprons and more. My favorite way to do this is upcyling found materials. For example, using reclaimed men's wool suits and turning them into clutches/purses. I have recently dived into Kinusaiga, a Japanese art form where fabric pieces are tucked into grooves on wood/foam board backing creating mosaic style art work. Free motion embroidery is also something I am learning and plan to incorporate both of these art forms into my sewn pieces in the coming months.
Who or what inspires you?
I am currently in the process of creating collections based on classic literature and film beginning with Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass. I love to study and pull elements from the films and books and find fabric to compliment the theme/cinematography. I have a list of collections to create using this method.
What is your favorite medium to work with?
Currently textiles/fiber and I love mixed media. I've been involved with the arts since a child and have tried all different mediums through the years from acrylics/water colors/oil painting to throwing clay on the pottery wheel and forging metal.
What's a fun fact about you?
We've spent time tracing our family history and the genealogy research shows I am related to Pocahontas and Mary Queen of Scots.
