Andrea Twining
Art of Abiding Studios
Describe your art.
Painting for me is a time to slow down and explore how light shapes ordinary scenes, transforming them into glowing or moody moments; where color, light, and faith intersect. If I was pressed to identify my style, I suppose I would call it Contemporary Impressionism.
What's your favorite medium?
I primarily work in oil paints but occasionally enjoy painting with acrylics or watercolor paints as well. I also love mixed media work and go through phases where all I want to do is collage. My hope is that when someone looks at one of my paintings, they feel connected to a moment in their own story that brought them a sense of simple joy.
What inspires you?
I paint because I believe that beauty and light are reflections of God's goodness and offer endless inspiration. I am deeply inspired when I am blessed to connect with others willing to share testimonies of what God is up to in their lives, or maybe share something heavy they are currently living through and find myself constantly wanting to paint their stories. I also find myself enjoying painting those quiet, simple moments, perhaps seemingly everyday mundane moments, that just feel like special memories to be treasured. When I need other artists' works to inspire me, I always look to impressionist painters of long ago and now. I also love looking through children's illustrations when I need a little joy restored to my creative time.
A fun fact: I am convinced everything is better with coffee
